*NOTE TO ALL*: This is not meant to be condescending, but the list of those qualified is not done in any sort of chronological order. If that is how it is now, that is wholly coincidental; however, I will still put Adam Silver at #4

The Point Scoreboard: Post - Greenhill
Here is the ranking system so far. Since there are so many ties after 6 points, I am only going to go through the top 13. My tie-breaker system is still very much in a draft form. In regard to the tie between Jake Nebel, Paul Tyger and Tyler Cook: I used Jake's octas win to break the tie. Concerning the tie between Paul and Tyler: Tyler lost to the eventual tournament winner (Grapevine), therefore, I am giving him a higher rank than Paul. Additionally, Danielle Smogard and Chris Theis were tied; I gave preference to Danielle because she was in finals of a tournament whereas Chris was in semis. Adam Silver is given a higher rank than seeds 10-13 because he won a tournament, whereas they were in quarters of an octas bid.
1. Ryan Bennett (Southlake Carroll, TX, '09) - 12 Points
2. Devin Race (Westlake, TX, '09) - 11 Points

Old Tricks and New Features
Hello All,
In order to keep the scoreboard interesting this year, I thought it would be best to bring back some old features, and add some new ones I've thought about over the summer.
First, what's coming back (or is already being utilized):
In order to keep the scoreboard interesting this year, I thought it would be best to bring back some old features, and add some new ones I've thought about over the summer.
First, what's coming back (or is already being utilized):
- Team Bid Counts: This feature attracted a fairly decent amount of attention last season, so it will be coming back. Just like last year, tie-breakers will be determined based on the number of students who belong to a certain team. If two teams have a matching number of bids, the team with less students will be ranked higher than the team with more students.
- List of Auto-Qual students: this feature is self explanatory.
- State Bid Count: The 5 states with the highest number of students who have received bids will be listed. Student names will be included, but not the number of bids each student has.
- A Potential At-Large List: Following Harker, I will compile the list of all students who are at-large candidates. From there, students may (via comments) let the rest of the community know if they are applying for an at-large or not. The list will display the student, their school, and where they received a bid at.
- Class Listing: Each student who receives bids and/or qualifies to the TOC will have their graduation year listed. This may also lead to a bid count determined by graduating classes, please send me feedback via comments letting me know if you think this is a viable feature to the scoreboard.
- Point System: I am in the process of determining a point system in which to 'rank' debaters based on how they do at a given tournament. Ideally, I will have a point system created by the end of October.

The Forgotten One
Ladies and Gentleman,
I have regrettably forgotten to post Mr. Matthew Lionel* Dunay on the list of qualified debaters for the 2008 Tournament of Champions in Lincoln-Douglas debate. For that, I am giving him his own post, letting those of you who want to know that he is, indeed, more than qualified to compete at the Tournament of Champions. He also looks like Navot Tidhar. Hats off to you, Matt Dunay, and good luck at the most prestigious of debate tournaments this May.
Also, this brings the competitor list to 70, I believe.
Sincerely,
Quinn Olivarez

As an explanation of the team ranking system, i have been calling tie-breakers based on the number of people on the team with bids. The system sees teams with more bids and less debaters as stronger programs than those who have many people with a small number of bids; subequently, the smaller team is the tie breaker. I.E., in the case of Scarsdale and MVLA, MVLA is the #2 because they only have 5 debaters with bids, whereas Scarsdale has 6.
In the weeks following Harker, I will try my best to publish a list of at large candidates. Thanks for reading

A Little Shout Out
Thanks to VBD for linking the nation's finest debaters (the VBD readers) to my humble site!!!! If you want to quickly navigate to the scoreboard (via VBD), simply click on the 'debaternation' tab, and look to 'news from other sites;' sure enough, there will be scoreboard update in the area. But remember, you can also bookmark the page; many browsers now support button bookmarks that hang out right below where you enter URL's. Yay!
So yes, as a break from all of the hustle and bustle of posting results, I'd like to thank VBD for the linkage, and of course all of the people who check this site more often than i do. The comments and emails as to how I've messed up are really helpful (seriously), and i would love for more comments to be left, as well as for more of you to get others you know in the community to check out the site.
